Long Overdue Update

We are in a holding pattern of doing the daily exercises and wearing the night paraphernalia. She has not given any trouble about the knee immobilizer since we started taking one night off a week. And she has not been giving me much trouble with doing her exercises.

One important thing I noticed is that I was missing on one set of strengthening exercises on those days we had to cut down to walking split into two sets instead of three or those days where we only had time for a short session in the morning and split the remaining time during the day. Now that I realized that I make sure we get in what we have to and dont always tie it to the walking sessions.

I think she looks good. She is doing much better on how high she can lift her foot and how much to the side. And her tip-toe exercises are much stronger I feel.

We were scheduled to come in on Monday but I had to cancel as my middle girl cant afford to miss or be late since she was sick all this past week and my husband is unable to take her to school. I'm hoping to reschedule for over my spring break and that the two week difference wont be too bad. We'll see.

Clockwise walking

Our house is set up so there is a circular path through it. You come in the front door, go straight down the hallway, turn right into the kitchen, walk through the kitchen into the dining room (we use it as a crafts room), turn right to walk into the front room, and then walk straight back to the front hall. This is where we walk when G does her practice walking.

Not long before our last visit to Childrens, I was walking behind Gracie, keeping her company and making sure she was paying attention (as opposed to being out for a 20 minute stroll) when it occurred to me that walking in a clockwise direction would force her to bring her left hip up more often. There are four turns and each time she made the turn she had to bring her left hip forward. I forgot to bring this up to Mary but I am wondering if this is one reason why her walking was so much better.

Knee Immobilizer

I've been having trouble with Gracie waking up in the middle of the night asking to have the immobilizer taken off. She says it hurts her but I have my doubts. Anyway, I asked Mary if she could have one night off from the immobilizer. Mary's response was if it meant Gracie would give me less trouble wearing it then okay. But if it meant she would fight me and try to extend it to other things then no.

Well I know Gracie and I know having the prospect of an entire night free of the immobilizer she would jump at it. So I explained to her that if she wore the immobilizer all night for 6 nights she could have the 7th off. That was on Tuesday. And the last two nights she has worn the immobilizer with no problem. She is looking forward to having Saturday nights off.
